Paul has taken the time to include a tutorial on the triple strum technique along with two of his favorite songs, Sometimes I Wonder and Ghost Riders in the Sky. Many thanks to Paul for the great instruction and songs.
You’ve practiced some strumming and some chords and now it’s time to learn your first song. One of the staple songs of the ukulele world is Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. This is a simple 3 chord song that is fun to sing and practice and will get you used to strumming in time and changing chords.
Don’t get discouraged as you’re starting to play. Changing chords during a song is difficult at first but, if you practice daily, you will be playing in no time. Be easy on yourself and, most iimportantly, have fun!
We’ve all been there. You have a great new instrument, you’ve taken it home and unboxed it, and now you aren’t sure where to start. I remember buying my first ukulele and being initally frustrated because I had no idea how to strum it.
Relax! We live in a wonderful digital age where there are multitudes of free tutorials and help available to get you up and strumming in no time! Youtube is a great resource for new players to learn all the basics of playing. I would like to highlight a few great introductory videos to get started. Continue coming back for more great content and tutorials.
Three Rivers Ukulele club (aka. TRU Ukes) is a collection of like-minded folks who enjoy making music with the humble ukulele. The club started in 2012 under the founding members of Jerry Noble, Mike (Mick) Lane, and Mary Jane Casiano who met at Sweetwater for lessons and decided to continue to learn and play as a group. Since then, the group has continued to welcome new members and grow. We meet at the Village of Coventry Pizza Hut on the third Saturday of the month from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. There are no fees and all skill levels are welcome to join us in playing or singing along. Come join us for fun, fellowship, and pizza! We look forward to seeing you there!
